Zamárdi is a popular holiday resort on the southern shore of Lake Balaton, known for having one of the lake’s largest free public beaches stretching for several kilometres. The water is shallow and gradually deepening, the shore is grassy with plenty of shade, and along the beach you will find paddle boat, SUP and kayak rentals. In the evenings the lakeside comes alive with live music and street food stalls, while the lookout on Kőhegy offers a clear view of the Tihany Peninsula. Zamárdi combines a closeness to nature with an unmistakable Balaton atmosphere.

Zamárdi Beach is one of the most popular public stretches of shoreline at Lake Balaton. The water is shallow and deepens slowly, which makes it ideal for families with young children and for a peaceful bathing experience. Along the shore you will find sunbathing piers, playgrounds and buffets, and nearby there are several sports courts as well as paddle boat and SUP rental options.

The Zamárdi Surf & SUP Base and the Windsurf Center Zamárdi offer both lessons and equipment rental, and the Portless e-catamaran provides unique electric boats for rent, no licence required.

Scent, colour and a Balaton panorama

The Kőröshegy Lavender Field turns the hills purple between June and July. On the eight hectare field visitors can pick lavender by hand, and a craft market plus local wine tastings complete the experience. It is an ideal programme for couples and families alike, only ten minutes by car or twenty five minutes of easy cycling from Platán Garden & Rooms. It can be combined with the Lavender Weeks period, when several themed events and photo sessions take place at different locations around the area.

Wineries

Zamárdi is part of the Balatonboglár wine region. Tastings and panoramic terraces await you at the Garamvári Vineyard, Bujdosó Winery, Kislaki Wine Manufactory, Légli Vineyard and Winery, and Konyári Cellar. The summer Wine & Gastro Picnic is a celebration of local flavors and wines.

The Balaton Cycling Route passes through Zamárdi, which makes Platán Garden & Rooms a perfect starting point for shorter trips or even a full circle around the lake.

Spring and autumn give the area a special charm, with fewer tourists, fresh air and warm golden light along the way. Bicycles can also be rented at the reception of Platán Garden & Rooms.
